April 2026

What YC Startup School India actually taught me

1 minute read

April 18, 2026. My birthday. And the day I sat in a room full of founders at YC Startup School India in Bangalore and realized something uncomfortable: most people are waiting for permission.

Permission to launch. Permission to charge. Permission to call themselves founders.

I've been guilty of this too.

But being around people with real ideas, real products, and real traction — still hesitating — made something click for me. The gap between builders and non-builders usually isn't intelligence or resources. It's the willingness to be embarrassingly early.

The YC AI Pack was cool too. Around $26K in cloud and AI credits across OpenAI, AWS, Azure, Cursor, Anthropic, Grok, and more. But honestly, that wasn't the biggest takeaway.

The real lesson was simpler: talk to users before writing code. Ship ugly. Iterate fast. Repeat.

The thing nobody tells you is that YC events are less about what's happening on stage and more about the conversations happening outside the sessions.

I left with four introductions, two possible partnerships, and one piece of brutally honest feedback on Syphon that I'm still thinking about.
